About
Bio
Born in England, I have lived in several countries and have explored a different artistic medium in each new city.
I studied Life Drawing in Melbourne, Australia; Bronze Casting in Dallas; Watercolor and Pastel in New Orleans; and Paper Mache and Life Modeling in Clay in London. Here in Houston I have been working in various media, including steel, clay and paper mache. My recent work includes various printing techniques and collages.
Statement
I’ve been lucky to have lived in places with a rich artistic history and to have experienced a diversity of media and teaching methods. Apart from learning new techniques, I have accumulated many ideas and influences. Some of these are subliminal and are only apparent to me when I see my finished work.
Drawing and painting from the life model taught me discipline and observation skills, and has been invaluable when working from nature. Even with non-figurative pieces I can use the movement and fluidity of the human body to express an idea. It has been important for me to develop the traditional skills and work in a realistic way before exploring abstraction. I do not like to repeat myself too often, but to diversify and explore.
